Randall Lynn Garwick, age 65, went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at Unity Point Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa.
Randall Lynn Garwick was born on August 23, 1959, to Kenneth Raymond Garwick and Darlene Marie (Hawkins) Garwick in Des Moines, Iowa. He grew up in Des Moines and was in the first graduating class of Grandview Park Baptist School in 1977. He attended one year of college at Faith Baptist Bible College before earning an AA degree from DMACC. He went on to work for the USPS first at the Bulk Mail Center and then at the main Post Office in downtown Des Moines, where he worked for a total of 36 years as a mail handler.
Randy realized his need for a Savior and accepted Christ at the age of 7, and was baptized in obedience to Christ a few years later.
He married Nancy Ann Walter on October 21, 1989, at Altoona Regular Baptist Church, where they attended for over 20 years. In 2009, they joined the Community Baptist Church, a new church plant in Ankeny, Iowa. He enjoyed serving in Awana, singing in the choir, and organizing caroling at Christmas and Easter.
Three beloved children were born to Randy and Nancy: two sons, Jesse Raymond and Jared Matthew, and one daughter, Laura Marie. He loved his children (and all children) and was a wonderful father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and great-uncle. His joy in life was spending time with his family on vacations, at family camp, attending church together, listening to music, and sitting around the campfire playing games. He would do anything for his children, and his sacrificial love for his family is a beautiful legacy he has left behind. He was a faithful leader and made sure his family was in a biblical church and involved with ministry.
Over the years, he was an avid videographer and enjoyed videotaping all the life events of his family and many weddings for friends and family.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy of Altoona, sons, Jesse and Jared, of Des Moines, daughter Laura (Nate) Pelletier and granddaughter, Aliza Faye, of Ottumwa, Iowa, sister Marilyn (Harvey) Schrupp of Altoona, father-in-law Don Walter of Altoona, brother-in-law, Dave (Jen) Walter of Ankeny, sister-in-law, Carol (Warren) Tustin of Colorado Springs, Colorado, many nieces and nephews and many great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Darlene Garwick; his sister, Linda Joy Rutenbeck; his mother-in-law, Sonja Walter; his nephew, Brian Smith; and his great-niece, Lelani Lahey.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am, Friday, July 11, 2025, at Community Baptist Church (4703 N. Ankeny Blvd.), Ankeny, Iowa. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the services. Burial will take place at Avon Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be directed to Community Baptist Church.
